Globes featuring a collection of coloured plaster intaglios. Each globe is distinguished by the unique colour of its intaglios: azure blue, white and coral. In the 17th century, many young aristocrats and artists undertook the ‘Grand Tour’, a voyage of initiation throughout Europe inspired by the Greek and Latin humanists, which enabled them to enrich their cultural knowledge and further their education. Greece and Italy were their favourite destinations. On their return or during their travels, they carved intaglios in the antique style, like the ones shown here.
